This game is not only played in India as a pastime, but is also an important ritual in festivals. The rules of the game may be simple, but it gets challenging as you play. Here’s how you play the game –

The main aim of the player while playing this card game is to improve the meld dealt to him/her. The one to build a winning meld first with a spare card to seal the game wins. You need at least 2 players to play the game and a deck of 52 cards. In case the players increase to 5 or 6, then you need to use two decks of cards. Each player is dealt 13 cards from the deck. The remaining cards are stacked in the centre. You have to build a winning meld by drawing cards from the stacked cards and discarding the ones you don’t want.

The meld can be improved by –

• Building consecutive sequences of three or more cards of the same suit   Or

• By arranging three or four cards of the same rank.

*Note – If you are using two decks of cards, the set may include two identical cards of the same rank and suit.

The player to build a meld as per these rules is the winner.

You need to keep in mind the category rank of the cards. The order from low to high is as follows – Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen and King. You can use the Ace card as 1 or the face card when you form a set. In case you plan to make a sequence then you need 3 or more colours of the same suit like 5 ♥ 6 ♥ 7 ♥ etc. To make a set you need 3 or more cards of the same face value e.g. 3 ♥ 3 ♠ 3 ♣.

The joker plays an important role in this card game. It is selected by pulling any card at random from the deck. The joker can be used to complete any sequence or set you want. Also, sometimes the deck already has cards that are printed as Joker; even then a card can be pulled at random. So the game is played with 2 kinds of jokers.

As some of you might be aware that RummyCircle.com (formerly Games24x7.com) stopped offering Rummy for Cash in the state of Tamil Nadu following a Madras High Court decision restricting Rummy for cash. A writ petition that was filed by Mahalakshmi Cultural Association in the Madras High Court to restrain the police from interfering with the activities of the petitioner including playing of 13 card rummy with or without stakes. The learned single judge, in his judgment dated 4^thNovember 2011 held that Rummy being a game of skill can be legally played for stakes by the members and guests in the writ petitioner’s association.

The police challenged this order of the learned single judge in Writ Appeal No.2287 of 2011. A division bench of the Madras High Court finally decided the Writ Appeal on 22^nd March 2012 where they accepted thecontentions of the police and stopped the Club from allowing its members and guests to play Rummy with stakes.

However, Mahalakshmi Cultural Association challenged this decision of the Madras High Court in the Honorable Supreme Court. At the initial hearing on 11^th May 2012, the Honorable Supreme Court granted interim relief to the petitioners by staying the observation of the Division Bench which prohibited the petitioner from offering Rummy.

The current legal position is that judicial pronouncement of the Madras High Court against Rummy for stakes has been stayed by the Supreme Court and it is open for the petitioner to allow its members and guests to play 13 cards Rummy with stakes for profit and gain.
Following which, we at RummyCircle.com (formerly Games24x7.com) are extremely thrilled to welcome back our players from Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry to play rummy for cash.

We will keep our players informed about the progress of the court’s proceedings regarding this case and how it affects our players. In Pool Rummy, players pay a fixed entry fee which forms the prize pool. Winner of every deal gets 0 pointsand the rest accumulate points which are added to their score. A player is eliminated once their score reaches the maximum limit of points on the table eg: 101Points Pool or 201 Points Pool.

What’s New in Pool Rummy?

Auto Drop: A player is allowed to drop anytime during a Pool Rummy match by clicking on ‘Auto Drop‘button. This player will then be dropped from subsequent deals and given the first drop score (i.e. 20 points in 101 pool or 25 points in201 pool). If this player wishes to re-join the table, they can do so by clicking on ‘I’m Back ‘Button. The points accumulated by this player when he/she was dropped, will be added to his/her score.
